MERANGGI FOUNDATION is an environmental NGO that believes Bamboo is an important means by which we can address global climate concerns.
The Foundation works with farmers across Bali in the outgrowing of commercially valuable Bamboo species, providing Bamboo seedlings to participating farmers free of charge. We maintain detailed planting records (GPS), monitor Bamboo growth rates (including associated carbon capture) as well as securing markets for future Bamboo trade.
Did you know ???
1. Bamboo is extremely fast growing. It can be harvested in just 3-5 years as opposed to more than 20 years for most tropical hardwoods.
2. Bamboo can be selectively harvested annually and regenerates from a clump without the need to replant.
3. Bamboo is a highly efficient sequester of atmospheric carbon thereby helping to address global warming concern. One hectare of bamboo can sequester up to 12 tons of carbon per year.
4. Bamboo is an effective erosion control barrier and can help restore degraded lands.
5. Virtually every product currently produce from wood can also be produced from bamboo including panels, boards, flooring, roofing, pulp and paper, fabrics and cloth.
The Meranggi Foundation has already planted 12,000 seedlings with farmers across Bali. It focusses upon highly sought after species of bamboo such as Green, Black & Spotted Petung ( Genus : Dendrocalamus ) as well as other exotic species.
